Coaches
  1. Head Coach: Yulia Hancheroff

  2. Yulia grew up in the Soviet Union, and started gymnastics at age 5. She came from an artistic family, With her Grandmother dancing for the Kirov Ballet and Grandfather an orchestra conductor. She trained at the school of Olympic Reserves in Scherbinka, just outside Moscow. She learned here both as a student, and later as a coach. During that time she was on the National Power Tumbling team, and was pan-european champion twice in a row. She continued her life in sport by taking a Sports Medicine degree at Moscow State University. She has a total of 25 years of coaching experience in gymnastics acrobatics, and dance. Over the years she has developed many State and Regional champions. she is also ranked as a national USA choreographer. She is also a meet director and every year hosts successful local and state competitions.

  1. Bars and Vault Coach: Guennadi Komissarov

  2. Guennadi graduated from the Belorussian State Institute of Physical Culture in 1984. He has coached National Russian Team Members, Poland's Girls National Team, and took his team from Colorado to the National Elite Competition in 1996. He has been coaching with with Yulia for over 10 years.

  1. Boy's Program Director: P.J. Chi

  2. P.J. has ten years experience in developing a Boy's competitive and recreational program. He has trained various state and regional champions.  He is also one of the experienced instructors working in our preschool program.  He also has a strong background in several other sports, such as track and field, football, basketball and wrestling.

  1. Boy's Program Head Coach: Jian Liu

  2. Jian Liu was born in Beijing, China, and started gymnastics at age six. He was selected by China National Team by age fourteen, one of his highest achievements was crowned Chinese Gymnastics National Champion.

  3. Jian Liu started his coaching career in 1995. As a professional coach, he possesses not only profound academic knowledge, but also remarkable skills in gymnastics training. The most outstanding achievements and contributions in his coaching career are reflected by the fact that the team and some of the athletes under his coaching have won numerous national and international championships. Other factors that make him so extraordinary are: he is professionally trained as a gymnastics coach; he is recognized as a successful coach in gymnastics training and he is endorsed by experts with national reputation.

  1. Compulsory/Optional Coach and Circus/Aerial Arts: Cathy Sutherland

  2. Cathy Sutherland, has been coaching level 4 through Elite gymnastics in the Northwest for over 30 years and has coached 6 gymnasts to the National Training Team. She started gymnastics at the age of 15 at which time her coach immediately started her coaching the younger team members. 3 years later she received a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of Washington. From there she moved to Paris, France to attend L'Ecole Carre school of Theater and Circus. Over the next 25 years she performed Nationally and Internationally as a dancer, musician, actress and aerialist. She recently returned from a 6 city tour with the Internationally renowned Pat Graney Company. She is a recipient of the Dale Flansaas Artistic Award and won 'Best Performance' in her work with the Printers Devil Theater. She is currently performing with the aerial group 'The Aerialistas' and 'The Velone Sisters'. At Metropolitan Gymnastics, she is coaching the Level 4 team and has started teaching 'Circus and Aerial Arts'.

  1. Compulsory/Recreational Optional Coach: Shirlene Chambers

  2. Shirlene is a former High School gymnast and graduate of the University of Washington. After graduation, she taught business and dance for grades 9-12. She has 10 years of coaching experience and has developed Metropolitans popular recreational optional program. Shirlene also coaches level 4, developmental, and recreational classes.

  1. Director of Recreational Gymnastics, Coach: Jennifer Rupley

  2. Jennifer comes to us with several years of customer service and management. She has also studied child development and child care, making her a valuable asset to our preschool programs.

  3. Jennifer also has a strong back round as an athlete, having been both a competitive gymnast, competitive figure skater, and played ice hockey for an all girls team in Massachusetts. She also competed on the high school gymnastic and track team. Besides gymnastics, she has had prior ballet and jazz training which she includes in her coaching. Jennifer has also spent many years in physical fitness, including weight lifting, power lifting, aerobics, and personal training.

  4. Here at Metropolitan Gym, Jennifer runs our recreational program along with coaching preschool, school age, and pre team gymnastics.

  1. Optional/Recreational Coach: Francesca (Franny) Jacobs

  2. Francesca has been a highly successful competition gymnast for 16 years, taking numerous State, Regional and National championship titles. At level 9 she was Washington State vault, bars, beam, floor and all around champion; Regional bars and floor champion and 2nd all around; national floor champion, 2nd on beam and 3rd all around. Level 10 she was YMCA National beam champion 2nd on floor and 2nd all around. Beginning at age 6 and throughout her competitive career she was the recipient of many special awards voted on by the judges for her outstanding presentation on beam, dance on floor and dynamics on bars. She topped her career earning a gymnastic scholarship with Seattle Pacific University. With her love and respect for the sport of gymnastics, she brings a passion to her coaching that along with her studies in early childhood education and child development, makes her a remarkably effective coach capable of working with all levels from recreational to level 10.

  1. Optional/Recreational Coach: Guy Adsit

  2. Guy began his coaching career in the Orlando, Florida area in 1981 coaching his brother’s boy’s gymnastics team after they lost their coach.  Since then Guy has coached and worked with many Olympians (Brandy Johnson, Scott Johnson and Ron Galimore to name a few).  In 1999 his trampolinist Derrick Aldrich was the Junior Elite National Champion on Double Mini and named a member of the Senior Elite National Team on Trampoline.  Guy has had numerous Sectional, State and Regional Champions in both Boys & Girls Gymnastics and Trampoline & Tumbling.  He also has had several qualify to Eastern, Western and Junior Olympic Nationals as well as earn college scholarships.

  3. Guy moved to Washington in 2001 and continued his coaching career. Guy was named USAG Washington Optional Coach of the Year in 2003.  He is married and the father of two daughters and a son.  Guy joined the Metropolitan staff in 2009.

  1. Preschool/Recreational Coach: Heather Engle

  2. Heather Jordan competed for Billings Gymnastics School in Billings, Montana for 11 years, after which, she began teaching preschool and recreational gymnastics.  Heather moved to Bozeman, Montana in 2005 and started working at Lone Mountain Gymnastics and Swim School.  In 2006, Heather accepted the position of Director of Preschool Gymnastics. During her time at Lone Mountain, Heather wore many hats.  In addition to her work in preschool gymnastics, she also worked as the Special Events Coordinator, bringing in new faces and new ideas, she taught swimming lessons, coached Team (Levels 3-8) and from time to time was in charge of the cleaning staff.  I guess you can say that Heather has done it all.  Currently, Heather is KAT certified, A Certified Shallow Water Attendant (for pools with depth under 6 feet) First Aid/CPR Certified for infant, child and adult, and Safety Certified by USA Gymnastics.
